B4 UR SKN® Celebrates 5 Years of Plant-Based Skincare & Black-Owned Beauty

🎉B4 UR SKN® Celebrates 5 Years: From a Soft Launch to a Purpose-Driven 🌿Plant-Based Skincare Brand.

Five years of skincare, entrepreneurship, community, culture, resilience—and a whole lot of Crabwood Oil!

September 21, 2026 marks five years since the official launch of B4 UR SKN®!

But the story actually began a little earlier.

In 2020, B4 UR SKN® had its soft launch, allowing founder Temika Walker to begin introducing her vision to the world. One year later, on September 21, 2021, B4 UR SKN® officially launched as a brand.

What began as an idea rooted in Temika's personal skincare experiences, family history, Guyanese heritage, and passion for natural ingredients has grown into a plant-based skincare brand inspired by the Amazon rainforest of Guyana, South America.

And five years later, we're celebrating not only how far B4 UR SKN® has come—but everything that happened along the way.

🤎 The Story Behind B4 UR SKN®

Before there was B4 UR SKN®, there was Temika.

As a child, Temika experienced dry, scaly skin, and later struggled with acne and the confidence issues that came with it. Her experiences eventually led her to research fruit butters and plant oils in search of natural skincare solutions.

Her journey became even more personal when a Guyanese associate introduced her to Crabwood Oil, also known as Andiroba Oil.

Temika brought the ingredient home to her family, where her grandmother explained its traditional use in Guyana and its connection to the Amazon forest.

That conversation helped connect the dots between family, culture, natural resources, skincare, and entrepreneurship.

Temika began experimenting with Crabwood Oil alongside fruit butters and other plant oils—and B4 UR SKN® began to take shape.

Today, Crabwood Oil remains a signature part of the brand's story.

✨ From an Idea to a Trademarked Skincare Brand

B4 UR SKN® was built around that connection: natural ingredients, cultural heritage, intentional formulation, and a different approach to skincare.

The brand's mission is to create luxurious handmade body butters, oils, and artisan soaps using nourishing ingredients connected to the Amazon rainforest while emphasizing clean, natural ingredients and transparency. Its vision is to grow within the natural and specialty skincare industry while maintaining a commitment to quality, integrity, cultural heritage, and wellness.

And one of the biggest milestones came in 2021 when B4 UR SKN® became a registered trademark. The B4 UR SKN mark was registered to BlacBeutyNo9, LLC on October 26, 2021, covering products including body butter, body creams, lotions, soaps, hair oils, serums, and other cosmetic preparations.

That wasn't just paperwork. It was a statement: B4 UR SKN® was here to build a brand that could last.

🇬🇾🌿Crabwood Oil: The Ingredient That Started the Conversation🌎

For B4 UR SKN®, Crabwood Oil isn't simply an ingredient. It's part of our heritage.

Also known as Andiroba Oil (Carapa guianensis), Crabwood Oil comes from a tree native to the Amazon region. B4 UR SKN® highlights the ingredient because of its traditional use in Guyana as a natural way to help repel insects, particularly during outdoor activities and while harvesting fruit.

The brand has incorporated Andiroba Oil into its insect-repellent formulations, including Repel & Heal UR SKN®, which was specifically developed around its traditional insect-repellent use. (B4 UR SKN®)

B4 UR SKN®'s broader skincare collection also centers the ingredient as part of the brand's unique formulation philosophy. The company's own product messaging describes its fruit butters and cold-pressed oils as offering both skincare and insect-repellent qualities. (B4 UR SKN®)

This is where skincare meets cultural heritage.

It is one of the things that makes B4 UR SKN® different.

🏆 Five Years of Pitches, Grants & Business Milestones

Building a business means learning how to tell your story—and Temika has spent the past five years doing exactly that.

B4 UR SKN® has participated in multiple pitch competitions, grant programs, entrepreneurial workshops, and business-development opportunities, including Brooklyn Public Library's PowerUP! Business Plan Competition, Power Forward, NYC Boss Up, and the Glow & Grow Black Beauty Impact Award.

In 2021, Temika was recognized as a PowerUP! merit winner for B4 UR SKN®, alongside other Brooklyn entrepreneurs. (Brooklyn Public Library)

In 2023, NYC Boss Up brought together entrepreneurs for a competitive pitch experience featuring business training, resources, and grant opportunities to help small businesses grow. B4 UR SKN® proudly became a 2023 finalist and winner, marking another exciting milestone in our five-year journey. (NYC Boss Up)

In 2025, she reached another major milestone when B4 UR SKN® won the first-ever Glow & Grow Black Beauty Impact Award presented by Brooklyn Public Library. Temika received a $1,200 award for the business. (Brooklyn Public Library)

But the journey wasn't only about winning.

In June 2023, Temika was invited by Brooklyn Public Library's Business & Career Center and Brooklyn Women's Business Center to participate in "Woman Owned & Crushing It: Perfecting Your Pitch."

She joined another successful business owner to share her experiences with pitching for grants and partnership opportunities, giving aspiring entrepreneurs an inside look at what it takes to communicate their business story effectively. (Brooklyn Public Library)

That moment represented something bigger than a pitch.

Temika had gone from learning how to pitch her own business to helping other entrepreneurs understand how to pitch theirs.
